Artist's Statement/Bio

"I was born St. Petersburg, Russia. My early childhood dream was to live the life of a spy, full of danger and intrigue… But the cold war had ended and the spying did not pan out, so I decided to live an equally dangerous life as an artist.    In 1997 I immigrated to the United States. Since, I have participated in numerous shows and exhibitions in and around Chicago and the greater Midwest. I have received grants, awards and have my artwork in several American publications.   My paintings are reflections of my conscious and subconscious life. Images for my paintings spontaneously appear in my imagination.   My imagination is 'activated' through interaction with people and places, as well as my dreams, literature, media, and independent research.   I like to paint people in motion. I do not use models and rely on my visual memory for every element of my painting."
