Artist's Bio

Pearlie is an abstract expressionist artist.   Her influences range from Jackson Pollack to Richard Dempsey from each she studied their approach to the image thereby enhancing her own ability to create non-representational expression. In her work she uses color to describe things or feelings in their most fundamental way.   Over the past thirty years, Pearlie has worked primarily in acrylics but also uses a variety of mediums to express her abstract themes. For many years her busy life seldom allowed her to finish a painting - until 2004 when she made the ultimate decision to simplify her life in order to fully explore her artistic nature. She has studied at The American Academy of Art in Chicago and the South Side Community Art Center (SSCAC).   Included in Pearlie's many exhibitions are a solo exhibition at the University of Illinois at Chicago the 2007 National Black Fine Arts Show in New York and Embrace the National Black Arts Festival in Atlanta, Georgia. Pearlie's work is collected around the country and has been exhibited internationally.   Awards: 2004-05 African American Alliance of the Arts Award for Excellence in Abstract Art; Third prize ribbon at The Museum of Science and Industry 2008 Black Creativity, Juried Art Exhibition.   Publications: Artwork aired on The Morning Show Feb. 9, 2008; 2007 Spring/Summer Anniversary issue of Brides Noir Bridal Magazine; 2007 September/October issue of Chicago GRO Magazine; March 2006 issue of Better Homes and Gardens Magazine.
