As a child I drew nothing but horses. Now I ride them instead. Only an occasional animal appears in my work, causing a bit of a surprise when it does. My mentor Alex Vilumsons, with whom I worked 5 years in Los Angeles, insisted that humans and animals be excluded unless the artist knew how to avoid emphasizing "identity" or falling prey to the "cuteness" factor. He had a lot of other rules too, such as "no chickens on a pole". That one prevented compositional monotony. "No chicken scratches" either—a line had to say something, and say it in a definitive way. And finally, "don't think, just do!"

Alli received a Bachelor of Arts, Fine Arts from Occidental College, Los Angeles, CA.   Her art has been exhibited at the Women's Caucus for Art, the Evanston Art Center, Artemisia Gallery, and many galleries in California.
