Anatomically Correct was founded by Executive Director Debra Hatchett in 1991
in an effort to help artists find alternative spaces to display their artwork
and to de-mystify the art viewers experience. Debra has
curated, organized and promoted more than 200 exhibitions in alternative spaces
with works by over 1,200 visual and performing artists, and founded the Highland
Park Art Walk. In 2002, Debra was presented with an award from the
Friends of the Arts (FOTA) for her "Outstanding Service to the Arts Community in
the City of Chicago". She was also acknowledged by the Steppenwolf Theatre
Company with an autographed photograph from photographer Victor Skrebneski which
was signed by Steppenwolf's founders in appreciation of Anatomically Correct's
seven consecutive years of free visual art exhibitions at Steppenwolf Theatre.
She also authored The Artist's Gallery Guide to Chicago and Surrounding Areas
for the Chicago Artists' Coalition. Also in 2003 and 2004, Debra also served as
the Director of the CAC's Chicago Art Open - the largest exhibition of artwork
by Chicago artists under one roof. Debra has served as a juror
for the Wells Street Art Fair, Hinsdale Fine Art Festival, Naperville Women's
Club Fine Art Fair, Northbrook Public Library and The Art Center in Highland
Park.
Debra is also a licensed realtor with Koenig & Strey/GMAC and in addition to
providing professional services to buyers and sellers of real estate, Debra
helps artists find studio and gallery space.
