In Greek mythology, the dryads are female spirits of nature (nymphs), who preside over the groves and forests. Each one is born with a certain tree over which she watches. A dryad either lives in a tree, in which case she is called a hamadryad, or close to a tree. The lives of the dryads are connected with that of the trees; should the tree perish, then she dies with it. If this is caused by a mortal, the gods will punish him for that deed. The dryads themselves will also punish any thoughtless mortal who would somehow injure the trees. So in other words: save a tree! RECYCLE!

Soda Firing uses a mixture of baking soda, soda ash, woodchips, and whiting. This solution is added to the kiln at the hottest point of reduction (2,300 degrees!) and then vaporized producing atmospheric effects such as flashes of color, a characteristic orange peel surface, and glaze-like finishes that are formed from the chemical reactions with the elements of the clay body itself.    It is uncontrollable and random, which enhances the creative process for me.
